From classical piano prodigy to international DJ, radio presenter, producer and promoter, Ed Paterson's musical journey has been anything but ordinary. Classically trained from a young age, Ed first developed his musical foundations through piano, studying the works of Mozart, Beethoven and other great composers. However, it wasn't long before he found himself drawn towards hip hop, acid house, the UK rave movement and the limitless possibilities of electronic music. Trading traditional performance for improvisation, groove and underground dance culture, he immersed himself in jazz, blues, music technology and electronic production. After earning a degree in Music & Performing Arts, Ed built a successful career in professional theatre, mastering every aspect of production including sound, lighting, stage management and performance. His work earned critical acclaim, including headline reviews in The Stage and other national publications. Alongside theatre, Ed spent more than three decades performing with a diverse range of live bands, from Irish folk ensembles to original psychedelic funk projects. His most notable band, Ricky & The Hats, became a festival favourite and returned for a sold-out reunion show in Tunbridge Wells. Today, Ed is best known for his passion for electronic dance music, specialising in House, Progressive House and Techno, while drawing influence from a wide spectrum of underground dance genres. Behind the scenes, he has spent years producing original material and recently released his first track in two years, "Progressive Substancies", on his own label, Submix Records. As a broadcaster and presenter, Ed hosts the long-running Global Dance with Ed Paterson show on Ashdown Radio, delivering carefully curated journeys through global dance music. His reputation has continued to grow internationally, with regular shows on Dance Attack FM, Radio Alcobaça Portugal and FME Radio Hastings, establishing him as an international DJ and radio presenter. Ed is also the creator and host of the Behind The Decks podcast, which shines a spotlight on DJs and artists, regularly featuring members of the CodeSouth family. He further supports the scene through his Guest Mix Series on Dance Attack FM, providing a platform for emerging and established DJs, with a strong focus on showcasing CodeSouth talent. Since joining the CodeSouth crew, Ed has become a familiar face both on the airwaves and in the club scene. He has performed live at the Freemasons Pride celebrations, appeared at various Crib By Block events alongside DJ TOBZ, and shared line-ups while supporting dance music legends including Alex P, Judge Jules and Danny Rampling. Away from radio and club appearances, Ed runs his own successful local dance events and promotions, bringing together respected artists such as Steve Raven and Jay Hill while continuing to champion underground dance music in the South East and beyond. His guest mixes have featured on stations including HouseTech Radio, LDN Radio and Noise Pollution Promotions, while his acclaimed Making of a DJ series reached the top of the Mixcloud Global Science Chart. Driven by a lifelong passion for music and community, Ed's mission remains simple: to create connection, energy, peace and unity through sound. Whether broadcasting across the globe, performing in front of a crowd, supporting fellow artists, or producing music through Submix Records, Ed believes that music is not only something we hear, but something we feel. As always, he'd rather let the music do the talking.
Multi genre DJ, but my preference is Trance (Classic, Uplifting, Melodic, Hard and Euphoric) I often start my shows with House (Soulful, Funky, Disco and Classic) and take you on a musical journey, which crosses over to Trance in second hour of my broadcast. I have also played out Techno, Progressive House, and Tech House. My codesouth.fm show is every Sunday 8-10pm, called Sessions That Leave Impressions… the show that has more bounce than Tigger on a nitrous oxide pogo stick! Started DJing in May 2021 and in my first year playing out I have been the headline artist for an All Tranced Out event in Swansea, as well making my debut for the brand CREAM, and I also got the international opportunities of two events in both San Francisco and Ibiza. As at June 2023 I have had 20 no1 mixes in the Global Hard Trance Chart, as well as 16 no2’s and 11 no3’s. In 2023 I joined […]
